Tamarack is extremely small, with a handful of full-time residents. It is the perfect home for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and winter skiing and snowboarding. Nearby Lake Alpine offers summer and winter outdoor recreation.

Life here is quiet and secluded, many properties being vacation homes or cabins used seasonally, particularly during the winter since it is only 2.9 miles from Bear Valley Mountain Resort, offering skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing. Sledding and cross-country skiing are popular on local trails.

Homes are primarily rustic cabins, chalets, and small mountain homes. Life in Tamarack requires self-sufficiency and a love for the outdoors. It has limited public utilities, with many residents relying on solar power, propane heating and satellite internet.

At our second highest elevation of 6,913 feet, summers are mild and sunny, with daytime highs in the 70s to 80s. Winters are cold and snowy, with significant snowfall.

Winter activities include: Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are popular in the area when snow blankets the landscape. The road to Lake Alpine may be closed during heavy snow, but nearby Bear Valley offers winter access.

Tamarack Lodge is a family friendly lodge offering visitors simple mountain comfort and caters towards individuals, families and groups up to 50. Winter offers complimentary snowshoe use, kids sledding area. Only a stones throw from Bear Valley Village, Bear Valley Mountain Resort, Lake Alpine, Stanislaus River, Spicer, Utica & Union reservoirs.
